This winter has been one of the warmest seasons on record. What does this portend for the coming summer? Some experts are projecting most of the continental United States will experience the hottest summer in decades. How can we escape the endless heat? One solution is to install a swimming pool in the backyard. With obese children already spending so much time in front of TV’s either watching mindless shows or playing interminable video games, the idea of outside fun and exercise becomes a great alternative for many American families.

Nevertheless, the biggest deterrent to installing a backyard oasis is simply the cost. Built-in underground pools can run into thousands of dollars many households simply cannot afford. Thus the popularity of swimming pool kits sold via specialty stores or via the internet have become quite the rage. These kits offer a wide variety of pool types and accessories at very affordable prices. With a little help from the neighbors or family and some elbow grease, installing swimming pool kits are price viable and a great relief to the summer heat.

Most of these pool kits (in ground ) are made with a durable fiberglass shell and require very little maintenance. There are many shapes and sizes available so it is easy to customize a unit to fit your backyard landscape and needs. The options for seating and steps are endless. Many sites suggest the savings garnered by doing it yourself with a pool kit will be in excess of $10,000! It should be noted that many direct sellers of these pool kits strongly recommend that any perspective buyer discuss this undertaking with a professional local dealer to take advantage of their expertise. Doing it yourself can save big money. Doing it yourself incorrectly can cost you even bigger money.

There are also above ground kits for sale readily through the internet or local dealers. These pools offer a less expensive alternative to the summer doldrums. However, the long term investment value of above ground pools are negligible.

Whether you are an accomplished handyman or all thumbs on do-it-yourself projects, there are swimming pool kits that are right for you. Remember, no splashing whatever you decide.

Teaching children about basic business principles is a lesson that cannot be instigated too early. In today’s world, it is imperative that young entrepreneurs develop a passion for the workings of a business to give them an all around life lesson that will pay dividends in the years ahead. When children are taught the specific lessons of money management and organizational skills it reflects on their sense of self-worth and overall confidence. These skills can be applied in small businesses they initiate as well as round out their personal development.

A number of cool websites devote themselves to helping young kids get a start in the business world. Starting off with a lemonade stand is an old favorite. They can then manage the money they earn. Other ideas for young kids range from walking dogs to craft-making to pulling weeds in a neighbor’s yard. Car washing is also a standard that has earned allowances for kids over the years.

In an effort to develop this interest, many sites suggest parents begin by playing educational games involving business start-ups. Disney, PBS and other TV programming can also be used as an aid in this process. Monopoly is a very popular game but it also teaches children about buying and selling and the ramifications of both processes. There are many online games geared specifically for kids to teach money management and basic business principles.

Once an interest is developed, then the next step is implementation. Check out the following sites for additional information and ideas for kid-based businesses: Homeschool Entrepreneur:

Business ideas for kids
Mommy Savers: Business Ideas for kids
Show kids the Money: How to start a craft business
eHow: How to start a business for kids
Entrepreneur: How to start a kid-focused business
Gaebler: Ways for kids to make money
Creating wealth from birth: Encourage your child to start their own business

For Parents, there are many books and publications that can be a great source. However, the online availability of information is perhaps the best collaboration of materials to help your child become one of tomorrow’s business tycoons.

Finally- a recent article in Business Week entitled “Business Courses Give Kids a Leg Up” is a great testimony to this philosophy.

I was surfing the internet tonight and ventured onto the NASA website. I can’t be the only person who thinks that space can be cool. I used to dream of being an Astronaut when I was a kid. Flying to the moon or discovering a new world or even alien life forms would have been my crowning achievement. Obviously that didn’t work out for me, but it is always nice to dream. Don’t get me wrong, I am very happy with the way my life turned out. Now that I have grown up and have kids, I always look for constructive things that can keep them entertained. What I found tonight was that NASA has a Kids Club.

So what does this NASA Kids Club do? It isn’t a club in the traditional sense, it is a collection of games and videos online to keep your kids entertained. It also isn’t just about entertaining. They teach kids about NASA and what they do as well as various things about space. It is actually pretty cute. They even have Elmo and Buzz Lightyear involved. I really think it is worth you checking out. I always try out a few of the games before I let my kids play anything. I want to be sure that it is something that I want them exposed to. Trust me this is very safe. I hope that you found this website to be as cool as I did.
